Momma Post: Wow, it's been 18 months since Ruby made us a family. Her doctor's appointment was this past week. She is now 33 inches tall and 25 lbs. 2 oz. Her head size is still off the charts, which her doctor calls due to her "big brain". Ruby received two shots in her left thigh and was given a Tigger sticker and book from the nurse for her vocal effort. Dr. Linn is still monitoring, but remains unconcerned about Ruby's umbilical hernia. Next appointment won't be until 2 years.
This weekend Matt surprised me with an anniversary trip to the Oregon Caves in Southern Oregon (very cool, sweetie). Goodness it's been 5 years already. Anne and Peter generously watched Ruby, while we headed down I-5. This location was particularly special to me. My parents met at the Oregon Caves, while working during their college summers. Mom worked in the Chateau, while Dad was one of the cave guides. Nothing has really changed much in the 30 plus years, with the exception that the National Park Service is now involved in the maintenance and public education of the site. And, the lounge next to the dining room has become the gift shop.
Matt and I underestimated the drive to almost the Oregon and California border. We arrived in time to take the 90 minute tour through the caves. I was impressed that in my pregnant state, the moderate to strenuous cave trail was manageable. Following the caves, we squeeked in the Chateau tour and learned more on the history of the place. After dinner we attempted a short walk, but the bats kept swooping in on us. Apparently their sonar needs a bit of tweeking.
Around 9:00pm, we officially were missing Ruby and made a call from a pay phone to Anne and Peter to receive an update. The next morning at breakfast in the retro coffee shop, Matt felt Baby Stockton kick and jab for the first time.
