Momma Post: Ruby's friend Stella celebrated her 2nd Birthday this weekend. The activity portion of the party involved the Tumble Bus, a former school bus converted into a toddler gymnasium. Amazingly we fit ten kids, each with a parent in the bus. I was only able to enjoy 20 minutes before all the bouncing made me queasy. Ruby tentatively stepped onto the trampoline, but soon got her bouncing rhythm. She also dangled from the rings and the horizontal bar.
A couple quick notes about Ruby at 16 months. She quickly picking up new vocabulary. New words include: hi, bye, bottle (pronounced "boppel"), apple, puffs (pronounced "pa"), bath (pronounced "ba"), and cheese. Ruby also understands a lot and probably more than we realize. For example when I say, let's go upstairs/downstairs, she'll head straight for them. When her Dad asks if she's ready for a nap, she'll adamantly shake her head no. She gets really excited when we ask her if she wants a bath or a walk. When she really likes something (like banana and blue berry muffins), she nods her head with exaggerated enthusiasm.
I'm struggling a bit with her fruit, bread and yogurt diet. No green vegetables, meats, juice or unusually textured foods (rice or cottage cheese) for Ruby. I've told friends that her favorite food group is beige. Tonight she turned down tuna casserole, which she has enjoyed several times in the past. Matt insisted that it what due to my extra sprinkling of mustard powder. Still trying to be sneaky, we bought Veggie Pirate Booty today made with spinach and kale, and to our surprise after a long, suspicious look, she ate two small snack bowls of it.
