Tumble Bus

Momma Post: Ruby's friend Stella celebrated her 2nd Birthday this weekend. The activity portion of the party involved the Tumble Bus, a former school bus converted into a toddler gymnasium. Amazingly we fit ten kids, each with a parent in the bus. I was only able to enjoy 20 minutes before all the bouncing made me queasy. Ruby tentatively stepped onto the trampoline, but soon got her bouncing rhythm. She also dangled from the rings and the horizontal bar.

A couple quick notes about Ruby at 16 months. She quickly picking up new vocabulary. New words include: hi, bye, bottle (pronounced "boppel"), apple, puffs (pronounced "pa"), bath (pronounced "ba"), and cheese. Ruby also understands a lot and probably more than we realize. For example when I say, let's go upstairs/downstairs, she'll head straight for them. When her Dad asks if she's ready for a nap, she'll adamantly shake her head no. She gets really excited when we ask her if she wants a bath or a walk. When she really likes something (like banana and blue berry muffins), she nods her head with exaggerated enthusiasm.

I'm struggling a bit with her fruit, bread and yogurt diet. No green vegetables, meats, juice or unusually textured foods (rice or cottage cheese) for Ruby. I've told friends that her favorite food group is beige. Tonight she turned down tuna casserole, which she has enjoyed several times in the past. Matt insisted that it what due to my extra sprinkling of mustard powder. Still trying to be sneaky, we bought Veggie Pirate Booty today made with spinach and kale, and to our surprise after a long, suspicious look, she ate two small snack bowls of it.

Manzanita Memories

Momma Post: This past weekend we met up with my side of the family at Manzanita, a favorite beach haunt, mainly due to my Uncle John calling the town his off season home. The Dubes had several reasons to gather/celebrate, Papa Jack's 86th Birthday, Cousin Sarah's bridal shower and Uncle Peter's retirement. Lamely, we have no pictures of the reunion; only a few photos of a couple shore treks. Ruby was in awe of the ocean, unable to contain her joy in the ultimate freedom of running loose in any given direction.

Happy Easter 2007!

Momma Post: We celebrated Easter at the Kraft's new home in Happy Valley this morning. The same gang as last year (Ruby, Carson, Colin, Elysa and Conner shown on the couch above) with the addition of Colin Anthony Konkol born in January. Ruby impressed us with her quick concept understanding of the hunt and aggressive egg handling skills. The kids are beginning to interact with each other. Ruby to a special interest in the Elysa, the only other girl toddler, while jocking with the boys on toy sharing. Thanks again to our hosts the Krafts.

Happy Easter to all!

Tiptoeing Through the Tulips

Momma Post: Ruby enjoying an outing to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Woodburn last Sunday. It was a gorgeous spring day.

La Familia

Founding Fathers & Mothers

Daddy Post
: After an eventful and satisfying week in Virginia/D.C. it's great to be home. Ruby did well on the plane, but 7+ hours of a 23 pound child on your lap is a test of patience and endurance. That aside, it was fun to spend time with Ruby's aunts & uncles. We especially enjoyed sharing with everyone that Ruby will in fact be a big sister come this Halloween. Evidently we have a genetic predisposition to being born on holidays. Mom & dad are excited albeit a bit surprised by this new development. It must have been meant to be and we're incredibly fortunate to have so many gifts in our lives. In the posted pictures you can see Ruby marveling at the bubbles being produced by Grandpa Steve, a trip to the Jefferson memorial where we learned that intellectualism and politics used to be co-existent, crashing the gate at the White House (Ruby was inspired by Jefferson to attack the incumbent idiot), and looking up at the flying foxes while visiting the Australia exhibit at the Baltimore aquarium. Thanks to everyone who shared in the fun. We love you all.
